I remember some of the shows I used to watch as a child. Gummi Bears, David the Gnome, Gargoyles and many more. I thought they were great shows. Being a mother to a boy I don’t get the chance to watch girl shows, but I have noticed that Monster High has become very popular with young girls.
I received two requests for these cakes this month and each with its own story to tell. Much of the same color scheme, though.
The first is a two tier chocolate cake with a black butter cream cover (no fondant). Gum paste was used for the white skull and large “N” topper. The top tier features a purple fondant bow. Fondant was also used to create the Nadia, Happy Birthday, balls and bottom tier design. Black sugar pearls were used to accent the bottom tier design.
The tiers are staggered using a secured center dowel and angled Styrofoam circles (covered in butter cream and then fondant).
Gum paste was used once again on each white skull and fondant was used to create each of the final design elements.
On the right side of the second tier rests a black sugar rose. Rose petals are also scattered over the right side of the bottom two tiers.
Both cakes came with their own techniques and problem solving opportunities. The black butter cream cake was only my 2nd smooth butter cream surface order. Whereas the staggered tier cake was my very first of its kind. I loved creating each design and I am happy with the end results.
