There is nothing more rewarding than teaching yourself a new skill and watching it come to life. It is a wonderful feeling, to say the least. Whereas, everything I have learned during my cake designing journey has been amazing, I cannot express the joy I feel every time I create a sugar flower.
I have always loved the look of a sugar flower perched softly on a cake, so much more than a flower made from frosting. What’s more is that a sugar flower will last for years and serves as a constant reminder of the special gift that was received on a special day.
Roses are by far the most popular, but I have also made Calla Lilies; Daisies, Stargazer Lillies and many more.
This cake was in celebration of their daughter in law’s 50th birthday. It was a German Chocolate, single tier cake covered in butter cream frosting and a butter cream, embossed fondant. The “50” topper, flowers and bow are all made from fondant as well.
